With the motto: “A great place to grow!,” the beautiful and charming city of Newburg is an excellent community for any person to live in. The city has a population of about 22,000 residents and is located within the Portland metropolitan area, only a short driving distance from the bustling city of Portland. Newberg is the second most populous city in Yamhill County and is home to the George Fox University.

The city was incorporated in 1889, and according to Newberg’s history, the city was named by Sebastian Brutscher, the town’s first postmaster, who named the town for his former hometown of Neuberg, Germany. Brutscher also has a street in Newberg, Oregon named after him, Brutscher Street. The city is known as being the first community in Oregon to have Quaker services. George Fox University, which was originally named Pacific Academy, was founded by the Quakers in 1891. George Fox University is the only school classified as a national university that is evangelical Christian. US President Herbert Hoover is one of the most notable citizens who grew up in Newberg. Hoover moved to the city in 1885 at the age of 11 to live with his uncle after his parents had passed away. The home has since been converted into the Hoover-Minthorn House museum.

The two largest employers in the Newberg area are A-dec, a dental equipment manufacturer, and George Fox University. Other major businesses established in the area include SP Newsprint Co., Suntron Corp., Providence Hospital, and The Allison Inn & Spa, a Preferred Hotel. The city’s educational services are provided by the Newberg School District and George Fox University. Health care is offered by the Providence Newberg Medical Center.

One of the most popular attractions in Newberg is the Ewing Young Historical Park. Some other popular sites of interest include the Bald Peak State Park, Champoeg Park, Chehalem Glenn Golf Course, Roger’s Landing, and the various wineries located in the region. The Bald Peak State Park is the perfect destination for those who love the outdoors. The park offers incredible views of several volcanic peaks, picnic area, and numerous outdoor recreational activities.
