Clackamas is a census-designated place located in Clackamas County in northwestern Oregon and has a population of about 6,000. The community is a suburb of Portland, Oregon and is home to major establishments such as Clackamas Town Center mall and Camp Withycombe, which is a military base. A branch of the Kaiser Permanente Hospital is also located there.

Clackamas County gained its name from the Native Americans who were first settled in the region. These were the Clackamas Indians, who were part of the Chinookan people. Clackamas District was one of the four original Oregon districts created by Oregon’s Provisional Legislature in 1843, along with Champooick, Twality, and Yamhill. These four districts were later established as counties. Oregon City is currently the county seat of Clackamas County.

The economy based in and around Clackamas is based upon agriculture, timber, manufacturing, and commerce. Mount Hood, which is the only year-round ski resort in the United States and home to Timberline Lodge, is a major attraction in the area for both tourism and recreation. The mountain and surrounding rivers support popular activities such as skiing, rafting, fishing, camping, biking, and hiking. The Mount Hood region is also home to other great activities, outdoor events, concerts, movies, and festivals. The area also hosts numerous fairs and farmers’ markets throughout the year. Some of the popular attractions in the area include the Swan Island Dahlias Festival, trolley rides, museums in the historic Oregon City, Mr. Hood Skibowl Summer Adventure Park, North Clackamas Aquatic Park, a geocaching game, as well as great shopping and dining. The North Clackamas Aquatic Park is home to a wave pool and offers great swimming and exercise classes. Another popular event located in nearby Canby is another extremely popular event that attracts visitors from throughout the region every year. A great family event, the Clackamas County Fair has been held every year since 1907 and has offered great events and activities for both adults and children. Other popular events held throughout the year include the Canby Wine Festival, horse shows, dog shows, car shows, and holiday celebrations.
