Cedar Mill Real Estate Information

Situated in northwestern Oregon, the community of Cedar Mill is a census-designated place and an unincorporated community in Washington County. The community lies mostly along U.S. Route 26, west of the Willamette Stone. With a population of about 14,000, this small but beautiful community gained its named from a sawmill built on Cedar Mill Creek, which primarily milled Western Redcedars, which were the dominant tree in the area. The community is conveniently located just west of Portland, Oregon and boasts an excellent quality of life and wide range of housing options including affordable, basic housing, modest apartments, and newly developed luxury subdivisions.

Most of the land where Cedar Mill is now situated was settled in accord with the Donation Land Claim Act of 1850. In 1856, the community was officially designated as a school district. It wasn’t until 1874 that the first Cedar Mill post office was established. The first post office was built in the John Quincy Adams Young House, which still stands on Cornell Road. Today, however, the house is being renovated to become the Tualatin Hills Park and Recreation District facility. In 1976, a non-profit organization known as the Cedar Mill Community Library Association opened the community’s first public library in a shopping center at the intersection of Cornell Road and Saltzman Road.

Cedar Mill has experienced much growth and development in the area due to a large number of major corporations establishing facilities in the area. Some of the major employers in the region include Nike, Intel, Epson, Tektronix, and other high tech firms. There are also many new housing developments being built in the area, yet there are still over 1,600 farms totaling more than 135,000 acres.

Served by the Beaverton School District, Cedar Mill offers a wide variety of educational opportunities. Some of the schools in the community include the Portland Community College, Sunset High School, Cedar Park Middle School, Cedar Mill Elementary, and Holy Trinity. The Tualatin Hills Park and Recreation District also offer recreational activities for children of all ages. Cedar Mill is also home to the Cedar Mill Farmers’ Market, Village Gallery of Arts, and the Cedar Mill Little League.
